Celebrating National Homeownership Month by Empowering Prospective Homebuyers 🪴

June is National Homeownership Month, a time to recognize the importance of homeownership and the efforts made to expand access and equity in housing. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is leading the way with their "Let's Make Home the Goal" campaign, highlighting the benefits of housing counseling and aiming to close the racial homeownership gap. As we commemorate this significant month, we want to applaud HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge for her leadership in increasing access to housing counseling. We also take this opportunity to introduce HousePlant Social Loans—an innovative resource that can partner with housing counselors to empower prospective homebuyers on their path to homeownership.

HUD's "Let's Make Home the Goal" Campaign:
"Let's Make Home the Goal" is a nationwide, multi-year initiative that focuses on generating awareness about the availability and advantages of pre-purchase housing counseling. By reaching out to communities of color that have historically faced systemic barriers to homeownership, HUD aims to address the disparities and promote equal opportunities. Through targeted advertising, events, and public service announcements, this campaign aims to reach nearly one million prospective homebuyers across thirteen states, with plans for expansion in the future.

House Party 2.0: Amplifying the Commitment to Homeownership:
Secretary Fudge's House Party 2.0, took place yesterday on June 10, 2023, on the National Mall, to further amplify HUD's commitment to helping Americans achieve their homeownership dreams. This in-person event was an engaging experience for individuals and families, featuring live music, food, and valuable information about housing counseling, financial education, down payment assistance, and FHA mortgage loans. The House Party 2.0, hosted as part of the Innovative Housing Showcase, creates an inclusive space for aspiring homeowners to learn, connect, and gain vital insights into the home buying and ownership process.

Dreaming Big about Opportunities for Future Collaboration
HousePlant is a new startup preparing to scale innovation to increase homeownership, and we see a unique opportunity for collaboration between housing counselors and this groundbreaking platform. Would it be possible for HUD and HousePlant to partner in the future? We are going to reach and we hope to find out soon, stay posted! The impacts here could be powerful. By integrating HousePlant into their counseling services, housing counselors can provide their clients with an additional resource to overcome financial challenges and access the necessary funds for down payments.
